The Italian Association for Responsible Tourism (AITR) is a non-governmental and non-profit association. It is inspired by ethical and democratic principles; it promotes and coordinates the activities supporting responsible, sustainable and ethical tourism. It aims to raise awareness of Responsible Tourism, promote lifestyles and a fair trade consumerism. Established in 1998, AITR now includes over 100 organizations operating in the tourist sectors, such as cultural cooperatives, tour operators, NGOs, small local associations and publishing companies.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
AITR promotes, helps define, raises awareness for, researches, updates and safeguards the cultural paradigms and the subsequent practical actions connected to the phrase “responsible tourism.” AITR also promotes and coordinates its members by encouraging the culture and the Responsible Tourism trips they propose and creating synergy among members.
